We continue south another 250 Km on the Panamericana to the city of Nasca.

The Nazca Lines are a series of large ancient geogliphs drawn in the desert around 2,000 years ago; there are hundreds of simple lines and geometric shapes; more than 70 are designs of animals such as birds, fish, llamas, jaguars, monkeys, and human figures; others include shapes of trees and flowers.

By midafternoon, we should arrive in the proximity of Nasca and will have a chance to stop at a couple spots where we can get our first views of the Lines, perhaps a resupply expedition into town and off to pick a good camping spot in the desert.

Day 4

We will spend this day in the area, starting the day with a flight over the lines. The rest of the day we will visit three sites such as the Cantayoc Aqueducts, Chauchilla Cementery, and the adobe city of Cahuachi, all remains of the people who drew the Nasca Lines xxxxthousand years ago.

The first 100 Km will take us from the coast to over 4,000m where we will arrive at the Pampa Galeras National Reserve, a park dedicated to the preservation of the Vicuña. We will have a chance to see Vicuñas, Alpacas, and Llamas in their natural habitats, as this beautiful highway takes thru many different geographical changes. Before arriving at your camp, take a detour to the town of Caraybamba to visit the wonderful Inca terraces which are still in use for farming today.
